Cleveland’s New Wedge: The 588 RTX CB

cleveland rtx cb 588 wedgeCleveland’s new added product, the 588 RTX CB wedge, was put to test by some company staff and professional players at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at a golf course in Las Vegas. Professional golf players who tested the new product include Charlie Beljan, Vijay Singh and Jerry Kelly.

RTX CB, short for Rotex Cavity-Back, features different technologies that intend to boost the ball spin at different playing circumstances. The new line of wedges resembles the company’s earlier models, the CG14 and CG 16 wedges, which feature also the wide Reverse C sole and a cavity back design.

The Tour Zip-U technology makes the groove approximately 16 percent bigger than the other 588 wedges. The face pattern is directionally-milled in semi-circular and downward marks that provide more roughness for greater friction and maximum ball spin during and after impact. The cavity back design of the wedges spread additional weight giving more forgiveness during mishit.

One Cleveland staff that tested the wedge gave feedback and said, “In most situations, around the green side was where the benefit shined. The slightly more aggressive groove was able to give staffers and players the one hop check they have been searching for.”

Other personalities who also put the wedge to test and experienced the new product in Las Vegas were Stephen Gangluff, Boo Weekley, Vaughn Taylor, Gavin Coles, Tim Herron and Bart Bryant.
