David Feherty on Golf Channel Am Tour Senior Nationals

Writer and broadcaster David Feherty spoke with the competitors on the eve of the Golf Channel Am Tour Senior National Championships. And he said, “The tournament starts tomorrow but I just want you to know this. This is golf. You’re meant to suck, and you will suck this week.” The tournament was held at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Feherty was probably trying to tell the participants that keeping loose may be the best road to victory. The event is anticipated to be the toughest Am Tour Nationals ever with 500 competitors in the senior division. Another 640 competitors are expected to join in the Under 50 National Championship.

Feherty thanked the Am Tour for their charitable donation to the Feherty’s Troops First Foundation amounting to more than $63,000. He came to personally meet them after arriving from Ireland where he covered the Notre Dame-Navy game held in Dublin. The foundation is a charity supporting wounded veterans. The fund was raised through raffles made all throughout the season. Am Tour also announced during the event that the same foundation will be the recipient charity for their 2013 Tour.

John Damron, Ravi Kannan and Brad Polhemus are the three most confident competitors vying for the chance to be the next Golf Channel Am Tour Senior National Tournament champion. Each of the three have won the Golf Channel Am Tour’s TPC Sawgrass Open held in January of this year.
