The New and Improved PGA Centenary Course

The New and Improved PGA Centenary Course

With no doubt, Gleneagles Resort is one of the most incredible golf resorts you can find in Scotland. It encompasses three golf courses with outstanding qualities, one of which is the PGA Centenary Course.

The PGA Centenary Course has had enough share of ups and downs. Jack Nicklaus presented the resort to be the “finest parcel of land in the world”. On the other hand, many golfers also contend the awarding of 2014 Ryder Cup to the course. They are among those who believe that the course’s layout fits more of an American style of golf course.

Darren Clarke, a Ryder Cup legend, expressed his contention by saying, “Scotland is the home of golf and we should not be playing on an American-style course – it’s beyond my comprehension.” Some also thinks that the PGA Centenary can be an easy course for top golfers with modern ball and club technology. All these led to a suggestion that the course requires an overhaul.

Now, upon its completion, the changes to the course are yet to be experienced by the upcoming Johnnie Walker Championship. But even prior to the event, Clarke himself already had his praises in the course’s new layout. “I’ve heard all about the changes they have done. I haven’t played all of them yet, but the ones that I saw yesterday certainly were massive improvements. With this whole sub-air system that they have put in, it will suck the moisture out of the greens and they will be much, much better.”

Extensive changes and development were done within half a year resulting to a refurbished course, improved layout and several memorable holes for the Ryder Cup and other tournaments to be played on. These holes are expected to challenge players to take risks in giving shots and those who fails, will be punished. Let us all look forward for more of the PGA Centenary Course.
