Hunter Mahan Trusts His Ping Golf Equipment

There are few names you would think of when it comes to golfers who made big leaps in the 2012 World Rankings. One of them is the 30-year-old American Hunter Mahan who is currently at 10th place recording two wins within a five-week period of time.

Mahan bagged the WGC Accenture World Match play which is his second World Golf Championship. He won over the very competitive Rory McIlroy early this year. After few weeks, he bagged another championship, the Shell Houston Open. The said wins assured him of a spot in the US Ryder Cup and FedEx Cup. All these achievements may be attributed to his dedication in the sport as well as to the ever reliable brand of golf equipment he is using, Ping.

Mahan is using a 9.5 degree Ping G20 driver which is also used by Bubba Watson. He ranks 9th place in terms of driving accuracy on the tour. The fairway wood he uses is a 13-degree, 3-wood Ping G20 while his hybrid club is a 17-degree, i5 model.

Many players nowadays choose to bring what they call a rescue club in their set. They forego the 5-wood or 2-iron clubs but bring a hybrid type instead. Hybrids turn out to be a smart choice for Mahan who delivers more accurate shots using longer clubs. High level of accuracy is maintained with the use of fairway wood and hybrid shots.

Mahan sticks with the S56 Ping iron which gives him consistency in spite of driving the ball at short distances. Anser wedges combine great feel and control over the ball. It is also one of the most highly regarded wedges by golf professionals at this time.

The Nome putter serves Mahan well while on the course. Though its wedge shape looks bulky, the Ping Nome has helped him show off with excellent results in his competitions this year.
