Ted Potter Jr. Achieves His First Win on the PGA Tour

He certainly had his struggles, but he finally made it. Ted Potter Jr. won his first victory on the PGA Tour. As other first-time winners will agree, getting there was a battle that demanded persistence and patience.

Of course, Ted Potter Jr. was eager to experience the thrill of becoming a Tour winner. He knew that the win would come someday, but he did not actually expect it to be in this particular event. His intention was merely to spend his weekend playing after he missed some cuts. Potter just wanted to get back into shape before the upcoming Greenbrier Classic.

As Potter explained, “When you’re missing cuts every week, you get down on yourself. It’s hard to pick yourself back up. But the plus side for me is I was still young. I just knew I had plenty of time and just be patient and it will come back around again.”

Potter’s eagle-birdie finish put him in the position for a playoff with Troy Kelly. Potter went on to win the event with a birdie on the third hole. For his efforts, he was rewarded with a two-year exemption and a check for over a million dollars. Potter’s determination and grit finally paid off. It was a highly satisfactory ending to a frustrating and difficult stretch as a rookie.
