Tony Romo Emerged as Tour Favorite

Quarterback Tony Romo was named a tour favorite in the recent American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, held at the Edgewood Golf Club in Lake Tahoe. Despite the high expectations, he fell somewhat short of winning the title. The Associated Press reported that Romo was installed as a 5-2 favorite to win the annual celebrity tournament, due to his achievement of finishing second in the tournament for the past two years, and finishing in the top five over the past four years.

The game concluded with Romo trailing in fifth place behind Dan Quinn, who won the tournament for the fifth time. Romo gained 56 points while Quinn had 66. Three quarterbacks took the second to fourth places: Mark Rypien (60), John Elway (59) and Billy Joe Tolliver (58), respectively.

Romo shot birdies on three out of the first eight holes. His momentum slipped when he double bogeyed the ninth hole, and he scored another double bogey as he putted the 18th hole.
Romo has not shelved the idea of playing of golf but he did suspend his pursuit to qualify for the US Open. The reasons for that decision are pretty obvious, as seeking to qualify for the Open would surely interfere with his real job as a Cowboy quarterback.
