Gripping Materials by 3M

The world of golf welcomes another innovative technology courtesy of 3M. The gripping materials made by 3M are designed to provide golfers with more competitive game performances. The gripping materials come in two forms, golf gloves and gripping tape, and may be used independently of each other.

Both gripping materials are manufactured with the innovative 3M micro-replication technology and are composed of thousands of micro fingers that bond together to improve grip. The 3M golf gloves may be used alone, or supplemented by wrapping the golf club with 3M gripping tape for a more enhanced grip. Using the two items together provides the maximum effect. Both amateurs and professional golfers can take advantage of this new innovation.

The golf gloves are expected to improve a player’s performance even in wet and humid conditions. Friction is measured to be 80% higher than other glove materials marketed by competing brands. Overall game performance is improved and longer driving distance is achieved when there is better club control. By using the new gripping material, golfers will make swings that flow smoothly and with better speed, without exerting greater force. Less force during the game means less fatigue and stress for the golfer.
Tanya Richert, 3M gripping material business leader, says, “We are reinventing and revolutionizing the way golfers get a grip on their clubs in a game they love with golf gloves made with 3M gripping material.”

She also added, “Another performance factor that golfers will appreciate is that gloves and golf wraps made with 3M gripping material maintain their gripping power and properties in the rain or when dampened by perspiration, unlike typical leather golf gloves and wraps that tend to be unpredictable in wet conditions. This assures golfers that they can achieve enhanced traction and grip effortlessly in most any condition they’ll find on the course.”
Different academic research studies support the statements made by 3M Company.
