Cool Summer Golf Getaway at Beech Mountain Club

Cool Summer Golf Getaway at Beech Mountain Club

Many golf courses offer superb greens, layouts and landscapes, but what distinguishes Beech Mountain Club in North Carolina from the rest is its cool, restful temperature. The temperature at the club normally reaches less than 80 degrees, even during the summer months.

The club offers a unique program called Summer of 79°, whereby all golf fees will be refunded to a stay-and-play golfer if the temperature on any day exceeds 79 degrees. The official daily high temperature report is delivered from the National Weather Service station located at the mountain.

Brian Barnes, the General Manager of Beech Mountain Club says, “The thing I really like about this promotion is the ‘cool’ factor – being able to guarantee you can golf in the heart of summer in temperatures less than 80 degrees…. I used to live in the Triangle area of North Carolina, where high temperatures and humidity each summer can be rough. We want people to know they can escape those conditions and play golf in comfort.”

Aside from the enjoyable temperatures, Beech Mountain Club also has superb scenic views of Tennessee and Virginia from strategic points. The 18-hole course, laid out in high mountain terrain, was designed by noted architect Willard Byrd to be playable but challenging.

“The great thing about the Summer of 79° promotion is there aren’t many places that can offer a deal like this. We always brag about how cool it is here in summer. This gives us a chance to put our money where our mouth is,” said Calder Smoot, who is the chairman of the Beech Mountain Tourism Development Authority.

Barnes added, “Folks who do come here and experience the course typically want to come back, and we want to see them back.”
