Scotland is This Year’s Golf Travel Destination

The Golf Travel Destination of the Year is… … Scotland. The winner is selected by the prominent 2012 China Travel and Meetings Industry Awards which is run by the travel trade publication Travel Weekly China. The publication aims for the travel professionals in mainland China, Macau and Hong Kong, as well.

The award is an accomplishment for Scotland and the VisitScotland Long Haul and Emerging Markets. Both teams worked hard to promote the different golf destinations of Scotland in the Chinese market resulting to over 4.6 million total votes for all categories. Philip Morgan, the First Secretary of The Scottish Government received the honor during the awarding ceremony held in May at Shanghai, China. Winning the second and third places are Hawaii and Melbourne, Australia, respectively.

Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said “This is an excellent award that reaffirms and showcases exactly what Scotland has to offer and confirms our position firmly at the epicenter of the golfing fraternity. With over 550 golf courses the length and breadth of the country, including world famous Open Championship courses, hidden gems, and of course the home of the 2014 Ryder Cup matches at Gleneagles, Scotland really does have something for everyone.”
