Jason Dufner Breakthrough Comes at the Zurich Classic

Achieving victory at the Zurich Classic was indeed a breakthrough for Jason Dufner. He had been waiting a long time for that well-deserved win.

The win didn’t come easily for the 35-year-old Dufner. He faced a tie-breaking playoff with Ernie Els. He could have ended the game earlier had he not missed a 10-foot putt at the 72nd hole. But, luck was on Dufner’s side. Els happened to miss a birdie from 12 feet, bringing the game back to the 18th tee.

Talking about his victory, Dufner said, “So, you know, to get my first victory out here on the PGA Tour means a lot to me and to do it here in New Orleans at the Zurich Classic is just a great thing and to know that I’ll be coming back here as a defending champion next year and for years to come, coming back as the champion is just a really, really big honor for me.”

Dufner admitted that the Zurich Classic has always been one of his favorite stops on the tour. He was satisfied with the outcome of the event.

Els described Dufner as a wonderful guy. The two men have played together in many events. “He’s got a wonderful golf swing and I think this will help him a lot. I think he’ll win quite a few others. He’s got a really sound golf swing and game. If he keeps that shield up, he’s got — you know, that’s a pretty good defensive mechanism he’s got there,” Els stated.
